Our SL campus

Our school has a 16-acre campus on SL and here's a snapshot of my avatar in front of one of the buildings there:

I'm a Chinese but my avatar doesn't look Asian at all. I need to explore around a bit more to learn how to create an image that reflects my real self. But I do know some people who made their avatars look entirely opposite to themselves. One of them did so because he thinks avatar appearance is overrated. Well, although I'm not one of those people who are obsessed with how they look in SL, I have to say, being able to create an avatar and make him/her appear however you want, is definitely part of Second Life's charm.
